“I have reached my goal and beyond, by completing a large body of collage work inspired by the Bijlmer and by Amsterdam, through material and books purchased at the Waterlooplein Flea Market. I was able to make strong connections with organisations and artists from the Bijlmer; Amsterdam Zuidoost is an extremely inspiring neighbourhood.”
Inas Al-Soqi is a visual artist working with hand-cut collage, printmaking, drawing and painting. Al-Soqi holds a BA in Fine Arts from Tufts University and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and is currently finishing her MA in Art Business at the Sotheby's Institute of Art New York. In her work she plays with the dichotomy between the sanctioned and the unsanctioned and that of folk and fine art. In her collage work her first childhood memories of the First Gulf War/Kuwait War echo through. With war propaganda imagery as basic material, particularly of World War II and of violence against women, she creates a political form of satire.
During her residency Inas Al-Soqi created numerous collages inspired by the Bijlmer and Amsterdam. She presented her new work in the studio, at Heesterveld Creative Community, in NoLIMIT and in the duo-exhibition

Across the Pond and Back in Featherstone Center for the Arts (Oak Bluffs, MA). T. Martinus integrated one of Al-Soqi’s newly made pieces in the décor of his theatre piece
