Misheck Masamvu studied art with Helen Lieros at Gallery Delta in Harare and at The Academy of Fine Arts Munich. His practice encompasses painting, drawing and sculpture. Masamvu participated in numerous exhibitions including the 54th Venice Biennale, São Tomé e Príncipe Bienniale and Dak'Art - Biennale de l'Art Africain Contemporain. Recent work by Masamvu seeks to raise a conscious state of ‘being’ in relation to humanitarian acts not prescribed from a charter but from a pursuit of acts that retain dignity.

During his residency Masamvu created several new works that he presented in the exhibition Leatherette at Galerie 23|Contemporary art from Africa & the African Diaspora. For a review on the exhibition by Rob Perrée (in Dutch) click here.
