Cathy Byrd is an art critic, independent curator and art writer who centres her professional energy on international art and design. She earned a BA from Southwest Texas State University and an MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. Among Byrd’s collaborative curatorial projects are Losing Yourself in the 21st Century (2009-2010), Le Flash Atlanta (2008, 2009), Re\constructing Atlanta (2008) and Potentially Harmful: The Art of American Censorship (2006). Her writing has appeared in numerous catalogue essays, as well as in features, profiles and reviews. She was executive director of the not-for-profit arts centre Maryland Art Place and gallery director for the Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University Atlanta. Currently Byrd is the Grants Manager for The Wolfsonian-Florida International University where she facilitates new opportunities for public engagement with a global collection of modernist architecture and design. Since 2011 Byrd directs and produces content for the experimental new media platform Fresh Art International. Her international audio podcast series Fresh Talk present conversations with contemporary curators, artists, designers, architects and other cultural producers and the Fresh VUE’s present the international art scene through series of photographs.
During her residency Byrd conducted several studio visits, went to numerous exhibitions, recorded podcasts, attended the More Europe debate Amsterdam and witnessed the renovated Stedelijk Museum.
