We welcome a new artist in the AIR, Maria Lepistö!
Maria is an artist from Malmö (Sweden), who has previously graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy 2015. Maria is staying in the AIR because of a collaborative project with voice artist Miyuki Inoue and filmmaker Alina Ozerova, both based in Amsterdam.
The project is about the breeding and training of Surinamese songbirds in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Despite the interest in the status and integration of the annual bird song competitions in Dutch culture, they are very curious about the masculinity of the sport (singing only male birds) and the fraternal relationship between bird and man. Are the birds exclusive instruments to show off or are they companions?
On Saturday, November 4, Maria presents the results of her project during Museum Night Amsterdam 2017 at CBK Zuidoost.
